Palin’s Palm Notes

Palin Glancing at Her Hand Before Answering QuestionInitially when I came across this piece of news I thought, “No, surely this isn’t true, right?” Certainly the former Vice-Presidential Candidate and former Governor of Alaska didn’t write notes on her hand prior to a question and answer session with the tea baggers? Surely, the woman who often mocks the President for using a teleprompter wouldn’t glance at her hand to remind herself of her core values right? Please, someone tell me that the leader of this revolutionary movement knew her speech like the back of her hand….or front of her hand.
During the Q&A following her speech at the Tea Party Convention, Mrs. Palin appeared to read from her hand before replying to a question from a tea party convention organizer.  The takeaway is that this presidential contender apparently can’t remember her supposed core principles and needs a cheat-sheet when simply asked about her beliefs.

Closer inspection of a photo of Sarah Palin, during a speech in which she mocked President Obama for his use of a teleprompter, reveals several notes written on her left hand. The words “Energy”, “Tax” and “Lift American Spirits” are clearly visible. There’s also what appears to read as “Budget cuts” with the word Budget crossed out.  Just to be clear: The notes most likely weren’t for her speech, for which she used prepared remarks, but for the Q&A session that followed, during which she glanced at the hand in question and in my opinion, that makes it even worse.

Crib Notes? This potential presidential candidate and “movement” leader was using crib notes to answer basic questions?  This would mean:
A) That she knew the questions beforehand and the whole thing was a farce. (Likely.) and B) That she still couldn’t answer the previously agreed-upon questions without a little extra help.  If true, this is supremely rich coming immediately after a speech in which Palin took a shot at President Obama for using a teleprompter to read his prepared speeches.  You can bet that the President wasn’t reading scribbles off his extremities while he sparred with Republicans and Democrats in an unscripted format in his recent Q&As.  Palin, on the other hand, seems to need a cheat-sheet just to get through a contrived lovefest with a smitten interviewer and an adoring audience.

Why did the Tea Party Organizers choose her?  It just doesn’t add up.  Perhaps they are unaware that while she was Mayor of a small town named Wasilla, government spending went up 63% ($4.3 million to $7 million) and she left the town with long term debt for a sports complex that the town cannot afford.  Are they unaware that she increased the windfall profits tax on oil companies in Alaska and increased government spending by 30%? A fiscal conservative? Unless the definition has changed, I think not but you be the judge.  I’m no fan of the Tea Party movement – if it can be called such – but if this is their leader I actually sympathize with them.

If voters are seriously considering her for President, they need to be checked by a doctor. Considering the stabs she’s take at our President, this makes her a hypocrite. If she can’t remember simple things like the ones scribbled on her hand, who knows what else she needs help with.
